THE DC VC

HEY GUYS

I know there are a lot of readers of this blog from all walks of life and different backgrounds with different stories. If you have a particular topic or subject or question or interest you would like to read more about, shoot me an email at

madison.stucki@myldsmail.net

I would love to elaborate on the matter. I have gotten several emails about
WHY I DECIDED TO SERVE (type of questions)
I will share that story and post it in two weeks from today(ish). If you have any further questions or ideas arise shoot me an email and I will get on it.

As for this week,
Holy. Shnikey.
We got spoiled.

I'll give you the rundown because I know you all wanna know what the missionaries did for Christmas. ;)

Monday:
We went on a mini exchange with the Sisters. In the apartment complex we live in.  There are six of us English Sisters. The YSA Ward Sister Training Leaders, Us and Rolling Valley. We all met up at Target and switched companions so we could buy a gift for our current companion. We had a time limit and a budget. It was fun. Besides the fact that I had a manic coughing fit. THIS COLD. We also bought white elephant gifts for our District. Monday night we went to the DC temple with a family in the ward. We were supposed to have four investigators meet us there. But there was a crazy bad wreck on 495 so they turned around and went home. BUT since we were already there we watched the show. It was Todd Thatcher performing.  His family lived in my first area. So I got to see the Thatcher family and give them all hugs which was a fun time. It took us forever to drive home.

Tuesday:
District meeting. During District meeting we played a white elephant game and exchanged gifts. We also had a Facebook training that morning which was neat. For District meeting we all meet up at a church building as a zone. So there was probably about thirty plus missionaries gathered to have a meeting. Tuesday evening we went BACK up to the Washington DC Temple lights and watched another performance. It was a saxophone quartet. We went with another family in the ward and W. it was fun. The visitor center at the DC temple is so high tech. There are iPads and touch screen tv’s everywhere and its huge. They have a really cool Nativity display with over 90 different nativities from different countries. And Christmas trees everywhere. Then you go down to this huge auditorium and watch live performances. Outside you can see the temple and over 900 thousand Christmas lights.  It’s pretty. W. enjoyed it. On our way home he gave us these really kind Christmas cards.

Wednesday:
Christmas Eve! We went to lunch with the G. family. They took us to this authentic Latin American restaurant and had us try a little bit of everything. We had papusas, which is this popular El Salvador food that looks like a pancake but has cheese and sometimes pork in it with salsa. Yuka, which is a root of some sort, it looks and tastes like a giant, tough French fry with ultra spicy ranch or something. Plantanes, which is this fruit that looks like a giant banana cooked with those Spanish homemade runny beans on it. And then this other dish......which had all kinds of sea food I don't know what to describe it as. And horchatas.

FELIZ NAVIDAD AMIGOS. WELCOME TO THE DISTRICT of COLUMBIA

We went to a couple different members homes for treats, gifts and dinner.  Then we went Christmas caroling with our District. After that the Sisters met up at the Sister training leaders apartment and ate pizza, opened a present and reenacted the Nativity which was great.

Thursday:
CHRISTMAS DAY. We had a Sisters breakfast at our apartment.  It was cute. We opened presents, showered, wrote thank you cards, skyped home, ate at the G.'s home.  We played catch phrase with their family. Watched He is the Gift.  Went to a different church and socialized and fed homeless people for the rest of the night. It was quite the epic day.

thanks to the membs for the overlarge contribution of fruit.
notice how all they eat is bacon and cin. rolls.
the struggle

The rest of the weekend was average. Except we did have a Mission conference on Friday and we found out who the New Mission President is going to be! President David (and his wife Michelle) Huntsman. Like the guy who ran for Presidents brother. He comes in June. I actually leave the same transfer the Riggs do. So I won't have him for a Mission President but he sounds like a boss!

Things are pretty much back to the way they were before now.  The Holidays are dispersing.

...well....yeah...PRETTY much.

This next week is New Years! And with New Years comes NEW Resolutions. RIGHT? Remember when we would set New Years goals in elementary school? Do people still do that? I believe setting goals is important.

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE A BIG, HAIRY, AUDACIOUS GOAL. AND BELIEVE IN THAT GOAL. AND IN THE FACT THAT YOU CAN ACHIEVE THAT GOAL. -Jack Canfield

My companion said that was a gross quote. But a quote is a quote and that's all I have to work with so excuse the hairy part. Srry. Not srry. Blame Jack.

What's the point of a goal?

I don't think I did much goal setting back at home. But I have learned if you don't have a goal to work for you are just air balling it in any direction. Even if you don't end up accomplishing your goal, its better to be working towards something rather than nothing. If life takes you a different direction, so be it. I found a quote in a little book a friend sent me for Christmas by Earl Nightingale that fits perfectly, he says

"all you have to do is know where you are going. .
The answers will come to you of their own accord."

So even you FREE SPIRIT HIPPIES can set goals and still be a free spirit. It's good to always have a plan formulated, to constantly be striving for something. To constantly be changing and improving.

So my conclusion is the reason to set goals, is to improve upon,
To NOT become a fence sitter.
To drop being 'mediocre'
To shoot for the stars!
To have a plan or idea
To try a little harder, to be a little better
To push ourselves, to stretch ourselves
And to experience and accomplish things we otherwise might not have thought we could accomplish beforehand.

At the Mission Conference this weekend, President Riggs was talking about "Becoming." Our ultimate 'goal' is to become more like our Savior, and to return to live with God. He shared this quote about a young man who wished to Receive his fathers inheritance. His father wanted to give him all that he had too. Not only his possessions but his stance, and what he had become. And he read a quote that stuck out to me, it was the father saying..

"What I have I can easily give you.
What I am you must acquire for yourself."

It's very fitting in the context of our Heavenly Father. He can easily bless us with whatever he wants whether it be riches or our burdens lifted or whatever. But who we are, what we become here, what we do with the blessings we have been given is up to us. We acquire and choose the type of person we eventually become. This also relates back to goal setting because "Becoming" happens one step at a time. One goal at a time.

Preach My Gospel says:
"Goals reflect the desires of our hearts and our vision of what we can accomplish. Through goals and plans our hopes are transformed into action. Do everything you can within your power to achieve your goals while respecting others. The ultimate measure of success is not in achieving your goals alone. It is in the service you render and the progress you make."

Or as sir Edmund Hillary puts it
"It's not the mountains we conquer, but ourselves."

goals = to change, to progress, to become.
It's not necessarily the fact that we can check a box on our goal list and say we did it, but it's what we have incorporated into our life and the experiences that came along with it.
It's about conquering ourselves
Not just the mountain.

I have lots of goals for twenty fifteen believe me. Something tells me this year is going to be a year I won't ever forget. Lots of CHANGE but also lots of progression and learning experiences and beautiful memories. I'm ecstatic for what 2015 will bring! Last year at the beginning of 2014 and beginning of my mission, Sister Riggs gave a talk about having a one word goal. Meaning you pick one word you want to become. Rather than having a million things you want to try and change and improve on, to just pick one and really focus on it. Last year I chose the word

Discipline

I knew 2014 would be the bulk of my mission.  The full year that I would be out here serving. Before I came out and when I first became a missionary I felt discipline was something I struggled with. In every aspect I didn't like to be disciplined or particularly understand the purpose of it. But as I was listening to Sister Riggs one word talk this specific word kept popping into my head.

The definition of discipline that I liked the most was
"activity or experience that provides mental and physical training;
of the mind and body to produce obedience and self control."

or in other words, President Riggs defines discipline as
"doing what you don't want to do, when you don't want to do it, because you know you should."

and that is something I struggled with.
example a: My alarm clock goes off in the morning. Do I get out of bed? Or hit snooze?
example b: I need to workout because I'm gaining weight. Do I sit there and think about it? Or do I do it?
example c: Grandma sends me twelve boxes of double stuff oreos. Do I stow them away and eat them all myself? Or leave them on the table where my companion will eat them and get fat rather than me?

DISCIPLINE
Among many other things there are some favorable examples I will claim. Over the past year I hung a big quote above my desk reminding me to be Disciplined. In my thoughts, actions, daily routine, schedule, performance, tasks, teaching, time, passions etc. It's something I have really strived for this entire year.
AND it has really worked.
Picking ONE thing to focus on, one thing to apply to MY life daily.

DISCLAIMER:
I am not perfect at Discipline. I still slip up and I still get lazy. I'm not perfect at anything. BUT I have gotten better. It is something I have learned and will keep with me for the rest of my life.  The power behind being disciplined. The amount of work you can get done if you are disciplined. The kinds of success you will have. in life, as a missionary, whatever it may be.

For more about discipline click here

But because I liked the idea so much I decided to use this one word Goal Challenge again this year.
This year my word is:
CHARITY.
You probably read my last post on charity two weeks ago, and the importance of it. That is what I have decided to take on this year. I have been so caught up in being disciplined I think it has had a reverse effect on me slowing down, chilling out, smelling the roses, and loving life. and others.

I have always been fast paced.

You know the kid in kindergarten who takes their coloring page and scribbles all over the entire paper in 35 seconds then slams the crayon on the table and proclaims BOOM DONE. While all the other five year old children are learning to color inside the lines. Ya. That was me.

I like things done quickly and promptly. My life has always become a big task list where I'm continuously adding more checks and more check boxes. I've always felt I needed to be accomplishing something to be successful. Lately I have felt the need to slow down and experience things... Rather than simply accomplishing them. And truly loving and enjoying it along the way.

President Riggs also read a quote about Charity at the Conference. He said,
"the reason charity never fails, is because charity is not a single act, it is a state of being...
a succession. something one becomes."

So in order to work on CHARITY this year.  I am gonna be toning it down a notch. Slowing down. Living and loving and enjoying the beauty around me. To not just Conquer a mountain by doing something charitable.  Rather my aim is to Conquer myself and BECOME a charitable person. To reach that state of being, or living, where charity is what I truly believe and live by.

Don't expect this to happen in a week. This is a year goal. Maybe a five year goal. SUCCESSION #chill

AND
With that I challenge you to find your own one word goal to improve on this year. Evaluate your life. Organize your priorities. Find something you can change and improve on. Don't worry about the impossible mountains to be conquered because that's besides the point.

It's not the mountains we conquer, but ourselves.
~Sir Edmund Hillary

As for next week, my Dad will be posting a little something about priorities, responsibilities and life lessons. So stay tuned for that.  You will hear from me in two! (weeks) If you have any preferences on what more you would like to read about on this blog.  Shoot me an email and I'll get back to ya!

love you!

Happy New Year

Discipline!

Thanks Ty - for the ties.  Made my little friend happy:)

Happy Birthday Dylan

Happy Birthday Daddy!  I love you!

Family,
How was California?
Thanks for the invite.

Well in case you are wondering it is NOT spring in Virginia and I'm NOT  in a bikini at the beach like everyone else and their dog these days. It is actually snowing... like a blizzard.. like NO driving privileges today. No bueno. HOWEVER. Our Dearest friend Sister B. is taking us grocery shopping.  She is SUCH A SAINT. We love her.

Good to hear letters are coming (: Yeah transfers are this week so please hold until further notice. I'll probably be staying here.  But who knows! I'll message you after transfers and let y'all know.

Yee ha Spring and Summer will be interesting.  I'm kinda thinking Sister Schramm will be transferred too.  I'll lead out the area... but we don't know yet. I still prefer my Book of Mormon to my ipad but it's whatever! They are handy and entertaining sometimes. We can watch videos on them and Gospel library is really neat.

I got a new bag at Target and a light jacket at a Thrift store called Plato's.  So I don't have to wear my massive marshmallow coat everywhere. We are on lock down again today.  It is a bummer.

My week in review:

Monday:
Preparation day and we finally ran into T. who is putting herself in a clinic.  They are trying to get their daughter back and stuff. S. keeps thanking us for all we do and everything but they still aren't progressing. They are probably moving soon. I  hope good new missionaries take care of them where ever they go. We had an awesome lesson with the T. family.  We talked about "when your testimony wavers.. go back to the basics, to what you KNOW is true."  and work from there. Their daughter K. sat in and at the end we had a really good talk with her.  Which was awesome. Sister Schramm and I also made a sequel video to Johnny Lingo (: it's great. You'll see the video eventually.  I still haven't sent my card home.  Sorry I'll do that soon.

Tuesday:
Was Dylan's birthday right? How was it? Happy Birthday (: big eighteen. woop woop. mission age. yeahhhh???  We had District meeting and met with the Sisters to eat at Cafe Rio. When we were walking to our apartment some guy thought we were going to chase him down or stalk him or something?? He was just like, "I'm going to be late to my appointment. So sorry. Also I'm a member."  We were like..okay..thanks for that ha ha. It was awkward. He just told us all about his life and was like I can't talk. THANKS FOR THE INFO HOMIE.

Then right after that another guy came up to us and was like, "Hey can I have one of your Mormon bibles? and we were like... WHERE ARE THESE PEOPLE COMING FROM. People don't just walk up to Missionaries. It's like not a normal thing. So we talked to him about our 'Mormon Bible' aka The Book of  Mormon for a little while which was pretty sweet. He is our neighbor as well. We taught a bunch of lessons on Tuesday and visited members.

Wednesday:
We watched the Restoration video with T. and she absolutely loved it.  She said she wanted to come to church which was cool.  We cleaned K. basement and totally got attacked by MICE. Super Crazy. (pictures / videos to come)  I was screaming like a baby and one crawled up Sister Schramms leg so that was an experience. Nasty little things!  K. got a kick out of it. I'm sure. She was just screaming 'chase them away from the house.' You got it K!! We also met her husband and were trying to plan something with them and a family in the ward to get together.

I dropped off all of Ty's ties at H. house.  He was SOOOO excited!! He was pumped. So thank you a ton. You guys are awesome. He thinks they are way sweet! We also taught a girl who lives with some members who removed her records from the church. She's really cool. We had a good discussion with her about the importance of The Book of Mormon.

We visited E. again.  He knows the Church is true he's just hesitant on getting baptized. He is so stinking cute though. Same with our friend C.  She doesn't like the thought of "organized religion."  But she showed us her Book of Mormon and it's all marked up like crazy. She's so awesome and she feeds us sooo much food.

Also, the Elders called us and told us they ran into our friend T. who we had started teaching back in January and lost track of.  They put him ON DATE. He told them he had talked to us and we were helping him quit smoking. So that was pretty sweet. Dang it Elders. Stealing our little miracle humans. JK. But really. It was pretty awesome they found him.

Thursday:
We taught our first skype lesson to our friend J.  He was smoking.  So that was awkward. He told us he doesn't believe Jesus is the Son of God. So that is a setback that we are working on.  We showed the Restoration video to E. but she just compared it to slavery(?)  So that's a setback also. We taught F. about...karma..which he liked. Well -  we taught him about a scripture I found that could potentially relate to karma...ha ha. He really loved Sister B. so that was awesome. We also went and got snow cones in the freezing cold with A, A & S.  They are our buddies that we shoveled out of the snow way back when. So that was fun. Nathans (the ice cream place) is delicious!  Reminded me of home. J.  our miracle of last week fell off the face of the earth...we don't know whats up.

Friday:
We had Sisters Conference. We learned self defense and had a couple talks we listened to. I saw Sister Eddy and Sister Gray.  They both seem to be doing awesome! It was fun seeing them. We also got an oil change on our car so that took FORRREEVVVEERRR. Then we went to Wendy's real quick for lunch and ran into the Elders friend D.  He has teardrop tattoos.  (which in case you didn't know means you've killed somebody)  He has four of them!  and all other kinds of tattoos I won't tell you about because they are vulgar. He is a member now.  He just got baptized. We were talking to him and he just whipped out his Book of Mormon and started telling us about his favorite scriptures. So Sister Schramm bought him a frosty and we left. He was pretty sweet though. (:

Saturday:
We walked around alot since it was so nice outside.   We found this couple, D. & K. We were having a lesson with them outside and all of the sudden the Ice Cream Man ( I kid you not!!) Stopped his car, got out, and came and asked us what we believed God was. We told him he is our loving Heavenly Father and stuff... He just went on this TANGENT about a different faith.  How we are his slaves and saying he is human like us is degrading and he seriously didn't stop talking for a solid twenty minutes.  There was a line at his truck yelling at him. He was very...passionate... it was awkward.

F. came with us to the Adult Session of Stake Conference.  Which was way sweet. He said he didn't like so many people.  So that was awkward. We also went and visited N.'s mom and J. was there! So we talked to him for a little bit.  He said he is in Chapter 14 of the BOM.  So that is definitely some improvement.

Sunday:
Stake Conference.  It was really awesome. TONS of good insight. It was way sweet though because after Stake Conference the Stake Presidents wife (Sister D.) came up to me and was like
SISTER STUCKI

yeah. she remembered my name.

...and she went on to tell me that she was so grateful for what I said about missionary work ( I had a discussion with her a few weeks previous about being a new missionary) and how her and her husband had been working with a young Elder who was struggling and the things I told her inspired her and helped him out. sweet huh? She was going on and on about how inspiring and good of an example I was. It was crazy. I was like WHOA. I couldn't believe she even remembered me. Then she told me she hopes I get transferred to G. Where they live ;)  It was funny. The Stake President and his wife are so awesome. Well the whole entire Church, Stake and Ward are awesome here. I won't lie!! They are pretty Sweet people. Especially the conversion stories out here..gives me hope that the work we are doing really is making a difference in the lives of people!

So here is my little #spiritualmessage for you guys today.

At Sister Conference.  Sister Riggs talked about this thing people are doing where you pick ONE word to describe your whole year and you become that word within the year. Basically. In a nutshell. So the word I decided to pick is Discipline.

I KNOW I KNOW IT SOUNDS HARSH.

But hear me out. I decided this year is going to be the big chunk of my mission...and one thing I want to become is Disciplined.

I looked up the definition of Discipline and the four definitions I got were:

1. training of the mind and body to produce obedience and self control
2. control gained as a result of training
3. activity or experience that provides mental or physical training
4. training oneself to do something in a controlled or habitual way

Later when we went to Stake Conference one of the Speakers talked about the same thing. DISCIPLINE.
I don't know if you guys will get the same thing in your Stake Conference but if you do it is AWESOME so take notes. He talks about five ways to be self disciplined. (so basically it was a confirmation from God that I need to really strive to fulfill this whole 'one word' challenge this year)

The Five Steps are:

1.Acceptance.
Find out where you stand right now and accept it. Don't think your better or worse. Just figure out where you are and work towards it. Don't have a false view of reality, rather identify and asses where you stand right now.

2. Willpower.
Learn what you can and cannot do. Willpower is the ability to set a course and stay engaged. "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength or knowledge but lack of will"

3. Hard work.
Most people want the easy way out. Tougher challenges will have less competition and more opportunity. "The Big Secret in life is, there is no Secret." Whatever your goal. You can get there if you WORK"

4. Industry.
Working hard. Being industrious means putting in the time where it is difficult and needed. A lot of messes are simply when we refuse to go out in time and do it correctly. Just do it. Squeeze more value out of your time. He said "Give me a lazy programmer and a brand new updated computer and he wont get NEARLY as much work done as a hardworking programmer with a fifty year old computer."

5. Persistence.
Ultimately providing motivation. You'll eventually get results and that will be more motivating. Not even talent or genius or education can take the place of persistence. Press on and it will solve all the problems in the human race.

People think discipline will leave you grouchy and harsh but actually, mastering self control will make you happier in the long run and the moment.

Self discipline will surely be required if you are to achieve the goal of Eternal Life.

SO.  I'm really satisfied with my 'one word' for this year and I hope I can become a disciplined human being in every aspect of my life! I challenge you all to do the same. Find a word to work on this year and become it!
Good luck!

I love you all.
Thanks for all you do and have a greaaatttt week!

love sister stucki

Where is the LOVE?

P-day in DC we visited a few museums...

The Hope Diamond

Sebastien Bourdon "The Finding of Moses"

Family,
Monday:
Was a very chill P-reperation day.  I took a nap. (finally) We visited A. & M. who just got baptized. I taught A. some stuff on the guitar..a little bit. Ha. Some Tay Swift Stuff! We had a little Jam Sesh. #bondingmoment it was presh. Then we stopped by Bishops and finalized all the baptism papers and stuff...and visited the T. family!
Tuesday:
Was District Meeting. We had lunch with The District at Firehouse Subs.  I talked to Elder Black about Dylan.  So he should be adding him on Facebook and talking to him soon (:  Elder Black likes trucks.  I don't understand anything he says.  I was like Dude...talk to my brotha. So he's gonna do that.

We had dinner at the O. house.  Which was fun. We also dropped some people. Which was sad.  They are going to have a baby soon and they are always so busy and are not progressing at all. We will probably stop by and see the baby later this month.  But as for teaching.. they just don't really do anything. There is only so much we can do.

We met some new people... visited some families around here. There was a creepy dude standing outside our door at our apartment! So we made the Elders come scope it out and walk us to our door. haha.
ELDERS. We are grateful for them sometimes:)

Wednesday:
We went "Finding" aka Tracting for FOUURURR HOUURRRSSS.
Yeah enough said.
There was still snow.
It was cold.
Never again.
JUST KIDDING!
probably everyday for sixteen more months. :)

We taught N. again and invited her to a baptism this week.. she just needs to READ and PRAY and put forth some effort here!! SAME with lots of people its frustrating. We made lots of phone calls... L. answered her door and seemed interested and we talked to her forever. She is Catholic.  Her mother who is Catholic also. (very very strong Devout Catholic) was super sweet and gave us kisses on the cheek so that's a good sign. We taught her the Restoration.  She wants to take us to the Holy Trinity.  We are gonna take her to the Temple ;) Eventually. (:

Thursday:
Was Return and Report.  So basically you go and bash your companion.  So that was awkward. I just sat there. I'm not really one of those people. Who is into all that awkward stuff. I listened and learned.  But didn't say anything.  It's just weird. They do weird things out here sometimes. We checked a bunch of referrals.  Nobody seemed to be interested. We had dinner at the V. home.  Who are awesome and then taught H. who is ON DATE!  APPLAUSE. Pray for him. He is awesome.
We got canceled on by everybody else that night so that was no bueno. C. happened to answer her door.  We had a youth girl with us from another ward so we got a member present visit in. She was super cool and we taught some good stuff and she said she would read.
Friday:
We started COUCH QUOTES WHOOO. I'll send you a picture. Basically our old couch has this old sheet on it.  It's gross.  We started doodling on it and then we started writing all our favorite shut downs and funny lines.  It is quite hilarious.  If I do say so myself. Again, I'll send a picture soon. We were a little distracted during weekly planning..:/

I got no mail this week.  MAN literally. I got a letter from Elder Parkxfelt (goooo Fresno) and that is like it!!! WELL actually. Late Saturday night I ended up finally getting a letter from ELDER RHOTON. Which was very much appreciated. Other then that...NOTHIN. y'all have failed me this week. WHERE is the love? (Black Eyed Peas ref.) We went tracting again.  Visited L. again. and the S. family who are moving :( which is sad. We love K. & M. But they'll be taken care of in Richmond!

Saturday:
Was crazy.  We set super high goals and just went for it. We headed out to a Baptism super early with H. and the D. family in Gainsville.  It turned out way nice and they played a cello.  So I was stoked! Then we went and grabbed Little Caesar's and double timed it with Facebook / online proselyting for like five seconds.

We picked up the H. girls and visited the R. family and answered their questions about... Life! Then we checked on C. from Ghana! We had a lesson with her and her kids! We asked them to come to church.  They should be coming next week! We checked on C. & E. and there was no answer.  We gave out a million pass along cards. We had a quick thirty minute dinner rice and soy sauce.

Then we checked on A. There was some crazy dude freaking out, outside their house.  So we called a member and hung out at her house for a bit. Until he was gone. Then headed over to L. house.  She is awesome. She is super old and has a crazy life. When I say crazy I mean CRAZY. So we talked to her and shes not so into the church.  So we talked her into trying out Family History.  She said she would!

We also checked on our friend K. and he has this massive dog. It's a bull dog and it's so crazy. You'll see videos. It's like a thousand lbs. and has no teeth. You're going to die. The things I do out here man. I hate dogs. I really do. BUT you should see the way I act with these things. MOM you would die. I like... touch them... and God has blessed me so I don't die of allergies. It is a miracle.
Sunday:
I woke up with a kink in my neck and it hurt! It turned into this massive knot it looks like I have a growth! So Sister T. rubbed icy hot all over it. hahaha. She is like my 2nd mom here? She is great. We love her!

Also apparently it was Super Bowl last night because NOBODY wanted to answer their doors and let us in. lame lame lame. Where are your priorities people? Anyway. Church was good...the Young Women were talking about music or something and apparently all the girls we take on exchanges... Spilled the beans about my
JAM SONG.
It's a good song don't worry. ;)
But it's a secret!
AND they told everybody about it.
Women I swear!
No.  Kidding. but hey...whatever it takes to be an example to those crazy teenagers am-i-right?
no jk. I love this ward though.  They are great. I hope I don't get transferred for a while. I could chill in M. for a bit. Not live here forever.
But you know. Teach the people and stuff. (:
So the other day at Return and Report one of the Elders asked me what I've learned thus far on my mission.  I was just like brain dead. So I felt dumb for not coming up with some intellectual answer or whatever. But the truth is I've learned so much already!! That I couldn't even put it all into words. Because I mean... it's like all this information is just shooting at me!
I've learned to deal with people.  I've learned to sacrifice.  I've learned to be selfless.  I've learned to serve.  I've learned to be independent.  I've learned to rely on God.  I've learned everyone has agency.  I've learned about discipline, rules, guidelines and commandments.  Commandments bless us! Not restrain us.  I've learned to love.  And more about loving.  I've learned that attitude determines Everything.  I've learned the importance of family.  I've learned about being a true, good friend. Among many more things I have learned the doctrine better and how it effects ME personally.

Something else that really stands out for me and I love is that in our church We focus on life after this life.  On happiness and families and love. We focus on the Resurrection of Christ rather than the Crucifixion.  Which is beautiful to me. It is interesting walking into other churches beautiful buildings and seeing it so focused on Christs death.  It is almost overwhelming and depressing.... and not to undermine what Christ did for us because that is important and it is huge!!! and it is amazing.

When you walk into an LDS building whether it be a Church, a Seminary building or a Temple.  You're always going to feel that peace of knowing we will live again. Christ didn't just die and end at death...he is alive! He is with us and he has proven and shown us that we will live again also! That is amazing to me. When we see those pictures of Christ being risen...it means so much more! It's not a depressing, sad overloading feeling...it's a feeling of peace and comfort that we will live again.  We will get to greet our Savior after we have lived our lives and gave it our all!
So that is my soapbox for you today (:
I love you all.
